A favorite pastime of many Mexicans and even more expats, myself included, is complaining about the dis-functionality and lack of process and order in Mexico City. Especially with regard to government processes, agencies and the  transportation system.   But just when one concludes that this is just the way things are and there is little hope for improvement or change, something comes along to surprise you – another characteristic of life in Mexico. Always a constant stream of contradictions and surprises that cause all sorts of feelings and emotions to surface.  And this is what makes life here great.

Welcome to Mexico City 2010, a year for celebration, and more than that, a reason to make a positive change. This website outlines the plans, goals and vision for really making some significant changes in Mexico City. I found this inspiring and exciting. How great to take this historical event and instead of just having some parties and officials toasting and slapping each other on the back, really question the past, present and future of this country and people. In addition, other groups have spawned from the central committee, like this passionate group of active citizens (Pase Usted), with a huge drive and great ideas for discourses and community action on real topics like health, sustainability, education, border issues, culture and tourism. I think this is one of the most positive, active social movements honestly working toward change that I have seen in a long time. You go Mexico!
