The Virgin and The doors

The Virgin and The doors

While sometimes the lack of order and categorization can be frustrating in Mexico, images such as this help it all make sense. This is a truck window with equally prominent communication of both the Virgin Mary and The Doors. Really there is no reason why one should not equally believe in the power of the Virgin and the power of music, especially coming from an all-time classic band like The Doors. I myself believe in the power of a variety of things, from my lucky number and horoscopes to music, movement and positive thinking. This could be a totally new example of religious pluralism, mixing Catholicism with the holy spirit of rock and roll. I like it.

Or perhaps it is as simple as the availability of cool stickers and the desire for a little decoration on an otherwise boring vehicle. And if that is the case, why don’t more people decorate their cars and trucks? Why do we have a taboo, particularly in the higher socioeconomic levels, against car art? Are we ashamed or afraid to tell the world what we are passionate about, besides the sleek, subtle apple sticker? Perhaps this Mexican truck-driver is on the right track – proudly communicating his identity through the display of “passion stickers.”  Dually believing in, and advertising, religion for the mind and religion for the soul. Groovy.
